This spring, we decided to shake things up with a visit to the Museum of Illusions in Montreal. Located in Old Montreal, just a few steps from Palais des Congrès, this museum is a mind-bending wonderland for people of all ages. With over 50 exhibits that play tricks on your perception, it was the perfect place to spend an afternoon filled with fun, laughter, and a little bit of dizziness.
From the moment we walked in, the museum’s playful atmosphere pulled us in. We wandered through illusion rooms where nothing was as it seemed, completely captivated by how easily our eyes were deceived.
The Vortex tunnel, had us feeling like we were floating through space, even though we were just standing on solid ground. It’s designed to make you feel like you’re tipping over, even though you’re perfectly still. It’s hard to describe the feeling—it’s something you really need to experience to understand. And with its swirling galaxy colors, it tricked our brains into thinking we were about to fall at any moment!
Tip: If you’re prone to motion sickness, hold on tight to the railing—it helps, trust me!
The museum also features optical illusions lining the walls, designed to boggle your mind and make you question everything you think you see. My husband and I couldn’t resist testing out the exhibits with the rulers provided, proving that even simple visual cues can fool us.
The museum is also a haven for selfie-takers. The illusions not only work brilliantly in person but also look fantastic in photos.
Tip: Bring your camera or phone fully charged because you’ll want to capture every mind-bending moment!
For those looking for souvenirs, the museum’s gift shop is filled with puzzles, brain teasers, and games to extend the fun beyond your visit. You don’t need a ticket to visit the shop, but missing out on the museum itself would be a real shame.
