Last Mother’s Day, my husband and I had a special brunch at Modavie, a charming French bistro nestled in the heart of Old Montreal.
The Ambiance: The moment we walked in, we were greeted by a vibrant and warm atmosphere. Everyone seemed to be in such a good mood—it was contagious. The ambiance had that coziness that instantly made us feel at home.

What We Ate: We kicked off our brunch with drinks that set the tone for a delightful meal. My husband enjoyed a refreshing strawberry smoothie with a splash of Appleton rum, and I sipped on a beautiful mama mimosa, a blend of rosé sparkling wine, cranberry juice, and lavender syrup—the perfect Mother’s Day treat!
For our appetizer, we shared the beef tartare paired with crispy crostinis. It was seasoned to perfection, and we couldn’t get enough. For the main course, my husband went classic with the steak & fries, a tender 7oz flank steak served with a rich bordelaise sauce. I, on the other hand, opted for the bouillabaisse—a hearty seafood stew loaded with shrimp, mussels, cod, and potatoes, with croutons on the side. Every bite was a flavor-packed reminder of why French cuisine is so beloved.

We couldn’t resist finishing our meal with dessert. My husband’s cheesecake was creamy and indulgent, while my crème brûlée was everything you’d expect—crispy caramelized top and velvety smooth inside.

What I Love Most: What really made this experience stand out, aside from the incredible food, was the service. The staff was friendly and professional, ensuring everything was perfect from start to finish. Despite the top-notch quality, the prices were quite reasonable, making it feel like a true gem in the city.
After brunch, we learned that Modavie offers live jazz music in the evenings—something we’re already planning to return for. I can’t think of a better way to spend another evening at this lovely spot than with some smooth tunes and delicious French fare.
My Rating:
It was the perfect Mother’s Day brunch, and I can’t wait to experience Modavie’s magic again soon.
