Imagine standing so high up that Dubai looks like a miniature city laid out beneath your feet. Skyscrapers turn into tiny blocks, the sea stretches endlessly, and for a moment, everything feels very quiet.
That’s exactly what it feels like at the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world—and easily one of the most iconic things to do in Dubai.
I’ve been lucky enough to visit the Burj Khalifa both during the day and at night (on different trips), and honestly? Choosing which one is better is impossible. Each has its own kind of magic. So if you’re planning a visit—or wondering if it’s worth the hype—here’s what you should know before you go.

Book Your Tickets Early (Seriously)
First lesson: don’t wing it.
The Burj Khalifa is one of the most popular attractions in Dubai, and tickets sell out fast—especially for sunset slots.
My advice: Book your tickets online in advance. It’s cheaper, easier, and saves you from disappointment at the door.
There are a few ticket options, depending on how high (and fancy) you want to go:
- At the Top – Levels 124 & 125
This is the classic experience and totally worth it. Great views, lots of space, and the most popular option. - At the Top SKY – Level 148
Fewer crowds, a more relaxed lounge vibe, and a slightly more premium feel. - VIP Lounge – Levels 152–154
This is the full luxury experience with refreshments and a quieter atmosphere. Not cheap—but unforgettable.
Best Time to Visit: Sunset or Early Morning?
Dubai looks incredible at any hour, but sunset at the Burj Khalifa really is something else. Watching the sun slowly dip while the city lights come alive below you? Goosebumps.
That said… sunset is also the busiest and most expensive time.
If you want a calmer, more budget-friendly experience, early morning is a great alternative. Fewer people, clearer views, and more space to really take it all in.
Quick tip: Check the sunset time for your travel dates and book at least an hour before to get the full experience.

Getting There: The Dubai Mall Maze
The Burj Khalifa entrance is inside Dubai Mall, which sounds simple… until you realize how massive that mall actually is.
Give yourself extra time to find the entrance—especially if it’s your first visit.
Helpful tip: If you’re coming by metro, use the Dubai Mall Metro Link Bridge. It’s a long walk, yes—but it’s air-conditioned and leads straight into the mall.

The Ride Up: Fast, Smooth, and Kinda Surreal
Before heading up, you’ll walk through an exhibit about how the Burj Khalifa was built—which makes the experience feel even more impressive.
Then comes the elevator.
In less than a minute, you’re soaring up more than 120 floors. Your ears might pop, your stomach might flip a little… and then the doors open.
And wow.
The views stretch across Dubai’s skyline, the Arabian Gulf, and even the desert beyond. It’s one of those moments where you just stop talking and stare.

How to Enjoy the View (Without Rushing)
Once you’re up there, don’t rush. This isn’t a quick photo stop.
Walk around slowly and take in the full 360-degree views
Use the telescopes to spot landmarks like Palm Jumeirah and Burj Al Arab
Take photos—but also put your phone down for a minute and just look
Spend time on Level 125, which has interactive displays and a different perspective
Trust me, the memories stick better when you slow down.

Dining at the Burj Khalifa: Atmosphere Restaurant
Want to turn your visit into something extra special? Atmosphere Restaurant, located on Level 122, is one of the highest restaurants in the world.
Yes, it’s pricey. Yes, you need reservations. And yes, window seats cost extra.
But dining with that view? Completely unforgettable—especially for a special occasion.

Don’t Leave Without Seeing the Dubai Fountain
Once you’re back on the ground, stick around.
Right outside the Burj Khalifa is the Dubai Fountain, and the evening shows are a must. They run every 30 minutes and combine music, lights, and water choreography in the most dramatic way.
Local tip: Walk over to Burj Park for a less crowded view of the fountain show.

So… Is the Burj Khalifa Worth It?
Absolutely.
Whether it’s your first time in Dubai or your fifth, the Burj Khalifa never really loses its wow factor. The height, the views, the feeling of being above it all—it’s one of those travel experiences that stays with you.
Just plan ahead, book smart, and give yourself time to enjoy it. Some views are worth lingering over.
